Participating in a tree plantation drive at the Railway Sports Complex here on Sunday, South Central Railway general manager Ravindra Gupta said the only way to reduce environment pollution, increase oxygen levels and improve the quality of air was by creating green environs.

Conservation of nature and increasing the green cover was the responsibility of every citizen, he said.

He added that SCR was committed to doing its bit in improving tree cover by taking up plantation drives on a war-footing. The programme was held on the occasion of World Environment Day.

Over 1,000 saplings were also planted at railway colonies in Secunderabad and in the environs of the sports complex, according to a press release.

Later, Mr. Gupta also took part in the concluding function of a summer coaching camp for children at the sports complex.

Shikha Gupta, head of SCR Women Welfare Organisation, gave mementoes to the participants who numbered 180.

Conservation of nature and increasing green cover is the responsibility of every citizen.
